We had a private talk with Dr Blume for about 45mins at Le Mans earlier this year and we convinced him that if they continue with the Mission X it WILL fail, we aren't interested. I feel EU is more about virtue signalling and less about eco and protecting the environment. You could for example let manufacturers produce a small number of extreme cars, tax them like crazy (like at least 200k per car) and allow them to only be driven outside of cities and for a limited amount of km. And let the cars be wild, like 2005 level of emmisions. That would be the best for everyone. And use the money to plant lots of trees
Love hearing your insights Tim! You explain these topics so clearly and make them super interesting- a podcast would be amazing to hear your thoughts in more depth!
For real what are they doing they made so much money selling Macans and Cayennes . How do they not have it figured own McLean and Ferrari made there hyper cars successors.
So my suggestion to the EU would be to add a 50k or 10% (whichever higher) tax to the cost of these specal cars but still limit them to 500 a year or 1000 for the full run. Then the EU takes the tax money generated and uses it to offer 10% tax cost on car credit on a new electric car up too 75k car (so 7,500 max credit) per car until the money runs out.
Porsche is on the VERGE OF BANKRUPTCY. Last 1/4 sales down 42%, labor problems, far too much costly investment in EVs. Their parent Co. VW GROUP is closing factories and having problems for same reasons. All 20 000 plus Taycan's are being recalled and are depreciating at the rate 50% in 2 years causing finance companies to put the brakes on loans for them. They will all be collector's items very soon, LOL. We will miss you Porsche , and poor Audi getting into F1 when daddy, (VW GROUP ) is going to have very little funds for such things. Love the channel, Have a nice day !
Exactly. Shmee and many other supercar youtubers, are still living in a dream world of unlimited supercar growths. There are still many super rich people in the world, who buy these cars. But many manufactors, owing many of the subbrands, are in a downfall right now, not only VW. That will some day affect many supercar subbrands..
NOPE, Porsche SE is NOT Porsche AG, Porsche SE is a family holding company, the main shareholder of the VW Group. The decline in profits is at the VW brand. not the VW Group.
Hope they bring a hypercar with IC engine. Boxster, Cayman, Macan all fully electric. Even more Hybrid in the 911 lineup. Should be possible and still be in the regulations plan.
Tbh it doesn't matter if its a v6 hybrid or full electric or a NA v10 with these hypercars anymore. They've become so ridiculously expensive that they will anyway just sit in a garage with 52 miles on the clock. Make it more powerful than everything else, brag about its Nurburgring lap time, charge 5 million for it and call it a day. Then go back to making the cars that normal people actually crave, like 911 S/Ts and so on
Not surprised, looking at the company's stock price over the past few years, they have bigger priorities to deal with first before they splurge on a show piece bravado car that will be limited production. This does in theory mean 918s will jump a little in market value. Regardless of when it's produced, it can't be an EV. The buyers already on the list would lose it.
11:51 Doesn't make sense. F80 get a v6 because of eu regulations but ferrari introduce the 12cilindri, of which they will produce significantly more, in the same year?
Porsche don't get automatic qualification into the latest Holy trinity based on the fact that they were in the last. Its F80, W1 and Mercedes Amg 1 as latest best trio of this generation
Why are these brands not considering creating a sort of “spin-off” from the “main” brand, only for their limited series to be below this thresholds imposed by the EU? I.e. RUF, is a separate brand, but everyone recognises them as Porsche, AMG does the same with Mercedes. Probably they do not do it for an “image” and marketing point of view, as this would reduce drastically the value of the “normal” Porsches.
Great video Tim. Serious revision conversations about the future's technology and the regulations attached to real-world application needs to have already started, but if not, hopefully this video will help. Keep up the great content 👍🏽
Do the regulations apply to all companies within a conglomerate? If they only apply to each individual company, couldn’t VAG just create a spinoff company dedicated to ultra low production, ultra high end cars? Porsche could have something like “Porsche Design Automotive” and Ferrari could have something like “Ferrari Exclusivo” that are dedicated to halo cars only. That is, of course, only possible if these regulations count car production per company rather than per conglomerate. Additionally, I think if we could build an electric car of a similar range and weight to the internal combustion engine equivalents, a lot more people would be interested. People talk about how electric cars don’t make noise, but that’s simply untrue. Electric motors make all sorts of crazy futuristic sounds. They are quieter than internal combustion, for sure. But the experience inside the car can be quite fun. A lighter car would make it more fun while driving around corners. Additionally, while it’s hardly necessary - there’s no reason whatsoever that you can’t put a gearbox behind an electric motor. Sure, it makes it less efficient, but there is something to be said for the sound/feel/emotion of slamming gears (or they could do what hyundai did with the Ioniq 5 N).
@ that's unfortunate. It would have been cool if the EU had put something in those rules that basically allowed conglomerates/larger manufacturers to build up to a certain number of cars of a specific model that don't adhere to those rules. For instance there could be be a concession that's something like "any manufacturer that makes over 50,000 cars per year can produce up to 500 cars every 5 years that adhere to more lax emissions standards." While I'm no scientist, I highly doubt that an average of 100 cars per year would actually affect aggregate emissions, especially considering how rarely these cars actually get run or driven. Honestly, they could basically take the US show and display exemption from the 25 year rule, but for emissions. This would let the EU limit the number of miles these cars can be driven in a year, which would effectively restrict overall emissions while still allowing crazy cars to be made and shown off.
@@Shmee150 Tim, it sounds like ANY mass produced vehicle will be completely unable to have a V-12. That all this "progress" just means getting a (relatively) lightweight V-12 (maybe V8 in the near future), will require buyers to spend literally millions of dollars on a boutique brand where servicing also becomes an issue. Seems messed up. Do you think there's any chance Ferrari, Lamborghini, Aston Martin, etc. could continue offering these engines, albeit only in the U.S.? Thanks.
@@KaminKevCrewAll electric high performance cars essentially drive the same and are practically indistinguishable from each other. The differences between the Rimac Nevera, Pininfarina Battista, and Lotus Evija are slim, other than styling and interiors (which is hardly a reason to purchase such a car) At least with ICE cars you get varying cylinders, forced induction or natural aspiration, different types of transmissions etc… There simply is no way electric wins here, and the low demand for these electric hypercars is the cherry on top.
As someone who has bought CGT new It would be amazing for Porsche to make something as incredible as their CGT Although 918 is also incredible automobile hopefully their next hyper car be as good as CGT instead of making some EV McLaren P1 successor certainly looks magnificent

Shmee150 Great Video I'm glad you got to Drive that Absolutely incredible 918 Spider thanks to Brooks and I hope it's Successor isn't an EV or anything less than a V8 and I definitely agree that not even Porsche could happen making a fully electric Hyper Car that won't sell
Whatever Porsche decides to do... They simply must, must, MUST... Use a similar exhaust to the 918. Seeing it ignite on Top Gear sent chills through my body.
I’m afraid to think that these restrictions have already killed the hypercar segment especially from big manufacturers.. Jeremy clarkson said it and was one of the reasons why they’ve stopped doing car shows is because they simply aren’t interested in electric cars, they don’t have a soul anymore and are just washing machines. Performance of electric cars Brilliant, but they are missing what it means to be a car💔
919 Street would be INCREDIBLE!
Aston Martin Valkyrie and Valhalla taking Porsche's place. AMG One too.
Yo Shmee! I love this style of video! Keep the awesome coming buddy! Your living the DREAM and you deserve it!
919 Street is gorgeous. Porsche please make that car😊
But would you be happy with a V4 hybrid?
@@Shmee150if the V4 sounds good, then I think people might like it. The Jaguar C-X75 concept with it's hybrid four-pot didn't sound half bad either. I also find it strange and hilarious that the tiny 1.6l turbo-hybrid V6 inside the AMG One sounds better than the 3.0l TT-hybrid V6 inside the Ferrari F80!
No, I think they can do better. Sticking with Flat 6, hopefully these companies remember life is short, they should always build cars from our dreams and smiles would be countless and they would age better. Yolo. Awesome content and topic.
@@Shmee150if it revs high enough any engine can sound good.
@@Shmee150Yes but only because it would be a racecar for the road.
Should have been full internal combustion engine or hybrid. You need to have that hyper car sound and feel.
I’m a pretty high up porsche client (I’ve spent millions) and they scrapped the EV for a hybrid. Should expect it in 1-1.5 years along with the gt2RS
Since when do you have that information ?
Interesting...Do you know what engine it'll have?
Interesting
Dramatic future for supercars, hypercars and EVs. Uncertainty at best. Thank you, Tim.
Porsche needs to figure it out! We need a successor to the 918!
For real what are they doing they made so much money selling Macans and Cayennes . How do they not have it figured own McLean and Ferrari made there hyper cars successors.
Have you got a 918?
I truly hope somehow the old dear rules are retrieved and applied again, so we could see mad cars like the ones of the early 2000s!!
Never have I desired to own a collection more than the one in this video. Every single car is 🔥🔥🔥
VAG is in serious trouble!
A lot of non-Chinese car companies are in big trouble

Audi has not released an all new car in the last 10 years - A5 is the most recent
They literally are closing down their own German Factories
@@kebeiloesello9123 and that was just to replace the axed A4
Great video, Schmee. Would love to see more 'inside scoop' videos in the future
Sadly it was a forseeable development. Looking to the Chinese market and their agressively priced cars
And they’re facing hugely increased operational and energy costs due to their aggressively unfriendly basket-case “green” government
Exactly. Shmee and many other supercar youtubers, are still living in a dream world of unlimited supercar growths. There are still many super rich people in the world, who buy these cars. But many manufactors, owing many of the subbrands, are in a downfall right now, not only VW. That will some day affect many supercar subbrands..
Lamborghini out of wec says one of all
Audi politics
NOPE, Porsche SE is NOT Porsche AG,
Porsche SE is a family holding company, the main shareholder of the VW Group.
The decline in profits is at the VW brand. not the VW Group.
one of the best and most insightful segments in a while .Thanks Shmee!
Hope they bring a hypercar with IC engine. Boxster, Cayman, Macan all fully electric. Even more Hybrid in the 911 lineup. Should be possible and still be in the regulations plan.
Wishful thinking sadly
It'll based of the 963 Porsche.
15:43 I confess that silver is not one of my favorite colors, but this one looks stunning on this car...and the rims! They are beautiful!
Then go back to making the cars that normal people actually crave, like 911 S/Ts and so on
Fr
Id love to see Porsche make a 2.8 or 3 litre flat 6 six again and go lighter. I dont know if they can. But it would be neat to see.
Normal people and 911 st does not go well😂
@@Ryosuke-12 Well, sell the hypercars at a stupid enough price and make the st available for normal people ;)
@Marcus-kw2ed u know what,if I have lots of money,I would probably buy st instead of f80
I think the elephant in the room is the V12 in the VAG Revuelto.
11:51
Doesn't make sense. F80 get a v6 because of eu regulations but ferrari introduce the 12cilindri, of which they will produce significantly more, in the same year?
Engines are masterpieces! That is what you pay for. Everybody can stick 1000HP of batteries on a chassis
exactly, Elon Musk shoved a high powered battery inside a chassis and people call it "impressive".
Funny how the 918 actually blends in with the W1/F80. And the technology is not that far from these two too!
Porsche don't get automatic qualification into the latest Holy trinity based on the fact that they were in the last. Its F80, W1 and Mercedes Amg 1 as latest best trio of this generation
Really enjoyed this video! Also if Porsches ICE hypercar era ended with the 918, it ended nothing short of spectacular
Not allowed. If Porsche made a separate brand it would still come under the same regulations as the parent company.
AMG is owned by Mercedes, but Ruf is not owned by Porsche
@@Shmee150 This could be a good possibillity for RUF
Really hope we can get the holy trinity 2.0 at some point. Great collection displayed and another great video! ❤
I think the bigger question is what is the new Holy Trinity, because it's a different set now
Looks like the Aston Martin Valhalla will replace Porsche in next Trinity.
I think that sits a category beneath the hypercars
@Shmee150 Fair point.
I hope the next holy trinity will age as well as the last one did
I still hope that PORSCHE 😍 will make it! (Although i would definitely not be in the market for it😊)
Great video Tim. Serious revision conversations about the future's technology and the regulations attached to real-world application needs to have already started, but if not, hopefully this video will help. Keep up the great content 👍🏽
So sad the 1% have to be responsible of the planet too... Xd
You tell em Miguel! On every childlike level.
That Liquid Silver must be the most beautiful colour ever on a car!
Porsche taking their sweet time
@Porsche helllooo ! anyone there?
This is exactly why VW let go of Bugatti; it has to be distinctly separate from my understanding
@ that's unfortunate.
It would have been cool if the EU had put something in those rules that basically allowed conglomerates/larger manufacturers to build up to a certain number of cars of a specific model that don't adhere to those rules. For instance there could be be a concession that's something like "any manufacturer that makes over 50,000 cars per year can produce up to 500 cars every 5 years that adhere to more lax emissions standards."
While I'm no scientist, I highly doubt that an average of 100 cars per year would actually affect aggregate emissions, especially considering how rarely these cars actually get run or driven.
Thanks.
@@KaminKevCrew I agree 100%. These cars get used so rarely, that their impact is close to 0.
Porsche banked on a EV & found out the market didn't want something that takes 1-3hrs to charge 😂😂.

Shmee, I would have loved for you to bring Brooks in for a quick chat. After all, he is one of the main owners of Magden Motors.
we had a timing conflict on this one or I would have been there.....
Tim, I love the X lighting above the ben pak lifts. Maybe inspiration for a future mod in the garage?
I love the F80, but it also kind of looks like a LEGO car🤔
A v4 in a production car that can make 500-600hp just on ICE with a hybrid system similar to the 918? I would love it! Imagine aprilia rsv4 sound track with a turbo? Maybe use that same v4 in the cayman and boxter? I’d love to see the v4 be brought back to cars

When you're spending that kind of money on a car, you want the theatre that comes with it. The noise from the engine is a big part of it. An all electric car is fun for about a week before the novelty of it wears off.
Great video would love to see you on the Behind The Glass Podcast again to discuss this topic with Tony and Sam…. Really interesting and great insider information 10/10 video Tim 🙌
As usual very informative and relevant Tim, great work.
Sounds like the European manufacturers should make some factories over here in 'Murica and go wild.
This is smart by porsche. They relaized no one wants a full EV and now have seen mclaren and ferrari hand. Im positive they will lead the holy trinity again
Thank you for touching on this topic tim🙏
About time auto makers built timeless machines that only get replaced every decade, but in their eyes theres no money there.
Just to confirm. Maybe you can just ask those collectors because if there will be a replacement, most probably it is likely be sold before even produced.
Great insights 👍
